OData Service

SAPUI5 Application Consuming OData service with SAP WEB IDE PART-1

Pre-requisites

1.HCP(Hana Cloud Platform)Account with SAP WEB IDE enabled.
SAP HANA Cloud Platform is an open platform-as-a-service providing unique in-memory database and business application services. After registering to HCP you have to enable SAP WEB IDE.
With each HCP instance there comes the SAP WEB IDE that allows you to develop on HCP without the need to set up a local development environment. You can simply access these tools from the HCP Cockpit.
SAP Web IDE is a browser based development tool.SAP Web IDE accelerates building modern applications for desktop and mobile devices with the latest UI technologies and simplifies the end-to-end application lifecycle:prototyping, development, packaging, deployment and customer extensions for SAPUI5 and Fiori applications.
With powerful tools such as drag and drop components, templates and wizards, business analysts and designers can build their own Fiori and similar applications without writing code.
We will create a simple SAPUI5 Application consuming Northwind OData service. This tutorial is divided into three parts for simplicity. In the first part we will configure destination. In the second part we will create the app and in the last part we will add OData service to the application.

Steps

  1. First step is to configure Destination in HCP Cockpit for consuming OData service using destination editor.Using Destination editor we can configure HTTP,Mail and RFC destinations.By configuring destinations we can connect our web applications to internet or make it consume an on-premise backend system. We can also send email from our application using an email provider that is accessible from internet. We can also invoke an RFC function module in an on-premise ABAP system. From menu of hcp cockpit choose destination then choose new Destination.Add additional properties by clicking 'New Property'.I am using northwind odata service.Find details in image.
  2. From menu select services then choose SAP Web IDE and then click 'open SAP Web IDE' .You will see Tips and Tricks popup.Just close it or you can read it.
